What is lymphatic therapy (drainage) ?

Lymphatic therapy is NOT massage therapy. It is a specialized technique designed to support the body's lymphatic system. It's very gentle and rhythmic. The goal is to guide the lymph fluid through the lymphatic pathways and help the body restore balance. You will most likely see an increase of visits to the restroom while your body tries to eleminate the extra fluids. After lymphatic work, your lymphatic system will be activated for about 48 hours.

How soon can I schedule a post-op lymphatic drainage?

It's very important to note that lymphatic work IS NOT massage. Gentle post-op work can be started 48 hours after surgery to reduce and manage swelling. Drains are not a problem. It's important for the client to be comfortable and the table set up is all prepared ahead of time for the client to be able to come in and relax. Lymphatic work is so gentle that the only thing the client feels is relief from the movement of fluids being rerouted to the lymph nodes where they can properly be drained and expelled from the body.

Proper post-op lymphatic work does NOT include reopening incisions or "pushing fluids". This work is meant to encourage the natural elimination of fluids through the correct (lymphatic) channels and encourage the body to heal naturally, helping avoid the development of fibrosis.
